Winc’s wine delivery service is changing an industry

Wine is one of life’s simple pleasures and this company believes that the experience of getting a great bottle of wine should be as simple as enjoying one.

Wine subscription services offer thoughtful selection, great customer service and tremendous value for any level of wine lover, delivering fabulous bottles straight to the client´s cooler for the dinner table or wine cellar.

By 2006, there were an estimated 800 wine clubs or subscription services in the US alone, offering wines from boutique wineries, small-batch and private label wine, personalized bottles to fit flavor preferences and everything else that clients could not previously get at the liquor store. Today, younger services understand the power of niche branding and are tapping into the millennial market, making the home delivery world even denser.

Winc was founded in 2012 by Xander Oxman and Geoff McFarlane because of a shared belief that wine should be more accessible: simpler to get and easier to enjoy. They joined forces with winemaker and sommelier Brian Smith to build a personalized wine club that has quickly grown into Winc—a California-based winery offering an online membership experience, with wines that are featured at select retailers and restaurants nationwide. The team creates and curates over a hundred wines and makes the experience of exploring wine easy and pleasurable.

Winc is a thriving community of hundreds of thousands of wine lovers that is growing every day. It uses an online Palate Profile and the client´s ratings to recommend and ship the best wines for each taste, Winc asks customers to take a short quiz and then presents dozens of good wine choices and four highlighted recommendations that should match each palate for a monthly subscription.

If they already know about the customer´s preferences, it’s possible to choose which wines can be added to the box, and use the site’s filter options to find sweet, international and vegan wines also.

Winc sells both its own wines and bottles from independent wineries, the company works with vineyards and winemakers all over the world to source these bottles and also make its own varietals. The client can read up on the details of each bottle — its tasting notes, ratings from other Winc members, and its body and sweetness levels — before deciding whether to add it to their shipment.

A bottle of Winc wine is generally a hit more than a miss, while the indie wines rarely disappoint. The bottles arrive securely packed in a box (that also has a carry handle for convenient transport), along with a fun A-Z guide of important wine and Winc terms.

While the default shipping schedule of Winc is once monthly, it does offer a Ship Now feature for immediate shipping.

Winc provides an overall great value for the wines and user-friendly site. They provide to their customers a credit toward your next purchase for any wine that is not enjoyed.. Plus, the customer also can rate the wines (between one and five stars), which improves their future recommendations and helps others make decisions.
