Erwin Olaf Makes a Presentation and a Campaign Image for PAN Amsterdam 2018
For the thirty-second edition of the fair, the internationally renowned, Amsterdam-based photographer is creating eight new portraits with star objects displayed by PAN exhibitors. He is photographing eight objects from exhibitors’ collections against the background of the dynamic city of Amsterdam with its residents. These photographs will be shown with the objects in the special exhibition on the floor of the fair.
In this series he seeks striking contrasts in location or in the juxtaposition of sitters and objects, reinforcing the link that has been forged between the fair and the city as the centre of Dutch art and the art market. A selection of these photographs will be used for the campaign image for this year’s PAN Amsterdam.
PAN Amsterdam began commissioning photographers to create a campaign image in 2016. Eva Roovers and Koen Hauser preceded Erwin Olaf. It is the first time the special exhibition and the campaign image have been created by a single artist.
PAN Amsterdam runs from 18 to 25 November 2018 in RAI Amsterdam.
PAN Amsterdam, the fair for art, antiques and design, runs from 18 to 25 November 2018 in RAI Amsterdam. A hundred and ten art dealers and galleries show the best items in their collections to the 40,000 or so visitors to the fair.
The fair offers quality and diversity at prices ranging from €500 to €1,000,000. The artworks on offer include archaeological objects, Asian art, silver and Japanese prints, antique furniture, design and art by such movements as the Hague School and the Amsterdam School, Cobra and Zero, along with early and contemporary photography.
The eighty members of the various vetting committees – specialists from museums, the world of science and trade – monitor the standard of the objects for sale at PAN Amsterdam. They evaluate the authenticity, quality and condition of all objects against predetermined criteria and assess them on the basis of their most up-to-date expertise.
