Media 10 is bringing back the next edition of Design Joburg, featuring Rooms on View.
With thousands of visitors to last year’s inaugural show, the climate proved right for a unique showcase of the very best that the local décor and design trade has to offer.
The show’s curative process is set to top the maiden exhibition, with 2018 offering a larger selection of design industry trailblazers, all of whom will transform the Sandton Convention Centre into a nucleus of interior (and exterior) design talent.
Design Joburg 2018 will draw the attention of visitors to 2 major features, namely ROOMS ON VIEW and CoLabs.
Rooms on View’s long awaited, hit return as SA’s benchmark decorating show proved to be exactly what discerning lovers of décor and design were seeking.
With exhibitors displaying their wares within innovative room sets, this element of the show will once again be under the sharp curative eye of renowned South African interior designer Sumari Krige. The next edition of this show within a show will bring the latest in cutting edge décor to Design Joburg.
“Rooms on View continues to play a vital role in showcasing SA’s quintessential décor and design offering. This time, I’m looking forward to enhancing the original experience and superseding everyone’s expectations,” says Sumari Krige, Founder and Creative Director of Rooms on View.

Last year’s collaborations were a true innovation, and a hit with attendees. So, in 2018, we’re refining, formalising and supersizing this aspect of the show for both exhibitors and visitors. Because these collective spaces are so inventive and experimental, we’ve dubbed them CoLabs.
The overall concept remains the same: curated feature exhibits that bring together leading architects and interior designers with top drawer brands, local artisans and suppliers. We’re just taking the alchemy up a notch.
Part of upping the ante is the show’s exciting partnership with paint brand Fired Earth as sponsors of the CoLabs features.
Our stellar line-up of designers and architects includse the likes of Liam Mooney, Heather Boting, Design Dreams International, Donald Nxumalo and Form Interior.
More established studios like Design Partnership, Tristan du Plessis, Blacksmith Interiors and JVR Architects, will also be taking on mentoring roles and working with design start-ups (or should that be upstarts?!). Expect boundaries to be pushed, and some really progressive displays to evolve.

Media 10 is thrilled to welcome back Andrea Kleinloog and Megan Hesse, co-owners of Anatomy Design and HK Studio, as Creative Directors of the show. “We want to continue breaking the mould of the traditional expo, enhancing the experience for visitors by creating a live Pinterest board that will offer stimulation for all the senses.” says Andrea Kleinloog.
Using their wealth of industry experience, this celebrated design duo’s role will be to spearhead the creation of the show’s unique proposition. Together they’ll be driving this collaborative and integrated approach, crafting a show that will once again be the vanguard of design in South Africa.

Further Design Joburg features are in the works including the main central restaurant which will be curated by Marble’s David Higgs and interior designer Irene Kyriacou. Poised as Johannesburg’s coolest fine dining hot spot, Marble will be bringing the culinary magic.
Taking inspiration from the show’s own collaborative focus, this pop-up restaurant and bar will be called ‘CoLab‘ and celebrates Marble’s own collaborative journey with their vendors, artisans and designers.
The show’s gin bar is a collaboration of Hendrick’s Gin and premier African lifestyle brand Ardmore. Visitors can expect an imaginative and relaxing space reflecting what might be the results of film director Tim Burton going on safari.
The Architect’s Gallery is a new addition and poised as the central feature for the 2018 show. It will be an exhibit of the work of South Africa’s architectural community presented mostly in 3D model format.
Since tactile, take-away elements are a must, there’ll be a glut of leading décor brands selling their wares and providing visitors with instant gratification in the show’s Retail Corridor.
The Media 10 team is delighted to be putting on yet another stand-out show and will be announcing further updates on exhibitors, features and collaborations in the coming months.
Design Joburg, featuring Rooms on View took at the Sandton Convention Centre from 25 to 27 May 2018.
