Few designers still combine traditional craftsmanship with an avant-garde twist. Vanessa González is one of them. The Barcelona-based designer’s passion for detail and excellence does not leave anyone indifferent. Currently combining her work at an international bridal label and her two personal homonymous lines, Vanessa González is a designer to be reckoned with.
Vanessa González knew from an early age her future was in fashion. Born near Barcelona, she studied fashion and pattern design in the renowned Institut Català de la Moda where she also got introduced to artisanal tailoring, draping, and industrial production, skills that she later developed and perfected in her career. Her extensive training both as a designer and a couturier gave her the broad vision of the designing and dressmaking process that allowed her to create unique, handcrafted pieces from beginning to end.
While still in college, Vanessa’s work started to get praise from critics in numerous national contests where she successfully participated, ending up as a winner and runner-up in various occasions.
Once she finished her training, she worked for several well-established national brands like José Castro, – avant-garde pret-a-porter -, Josep Font – international haute couture -, and Eduardo Bosch – menswear -. Currently, Vanessa is a part of YolanCris, the well-known haut couture bridal and eveningwear label loved by countless fashionistas around the globe.
Vanessa’s strive-for-perfection nature and her tireless search for the best fabrics and materials have made her a successful and versatile designer who can create wearable, timeless pieces that scream high fashion.
Her inspiration comes, in the words from the designer herself, “from everything and everywhere”. Vanessa’s meticulous work doesn’t start in the workroom, but way before the designing process begins. The Spanish designer immerses herself in the subject she focuses on, capturing its essence and making it come to life in the form of beautifully-made pieces that tell a story. Her capsule collections Perdida en el tiempo (Lost in Time) and Nereida are the perfect example of storytelling through her garments. In the former, a time machine explodes leaving behind small fragments of different eras. This results in a mix of different periods of time combined in one piece of clothing. The latter is inspired in salt water nymphs and Greek mythology. Other capsule collections include Atelier, which depicts the process of creating a dress at the workroom and on its mannequins, and Alseide, inspired by forest and flower nymphs.
With her two main lines, Vanessa González and Vanessa González Exclusive, the talented designer caters to a wide range of customers who look for sophisticated and modern creations with intricate detail and an immaculate finishing touch. While Vanessa González is centred around urban designs with flawless finishing touches, Vanessa González Exclusive focuses on more complex, luxurious pieces. The exceptional quality of its fabrics, with silk being one of the absolute stars of Vanessa’s pieces, is one of the trademarks of this exclusive line. The couturier works on a made-to-order basis, which allows her to create one of a kind pieces that perfectly mirror her customer’s personality as well as altering her pre-existing designs to adapt to her client’s needs.
Vanessa will create that special piece you are craving for whether it’s women or menswear, bridal and groom couture, or custom-made designs to suit your style and shape.
